The LABS Innovation team are passionate and curious about people, science, food, fun and cultural change and are experienced specialists in the creative application of leading evidence based behavioural and consumer science.
Established in 2015, LABS Innovation is run by Sarah Pullen, Tracey Jefferies and Roger Mendonca who share a passion to make it easier for everyone to eat well and make feel good choices. We are a young company but each member of our team has bags of experience, awards and success under their belts, and have worked together in previous roles. We are a bit of a mixed bunch with senior expertise in food, psychology, policy and storytelling. The creative use of science to make a difference is what inspires and excites our team. What really matters to us is ensuring that everyone involved with LABS Innovation benefits in a way that matters most to them. This is why in 2020 we launched our not-for-profit company, Leading Applied Behavioural Science, to increase the reach of behavioural science with those who could benefit most.
Current approaches to changing eating habits are having little impact. Here at LABS Innovation we want to make changing behaviour easy for everyone. We have made it our mission to create effective and evidence based solutions that you can use in your environment. This involves modifying the food offer, environment and the way we engage with our customers to create environments that make it easier to select healthier foods on an ongoing basis. Straight off, we are not the fat police! We believe it is possible to eat a wide variety of foods in moderation to feel good everyday without dieting. Will power is the biggest barrier to eating well. We are all about using science to make it easier to live better lives, feel good and have fun at the same time.
We are able to make connections between science and expertise across many sectors that isn’t often known about or shared. There are many simple solutions that can be applied to food environments to make a difference to our eating habits without spending any money. We don’t mean over complicated ideas that are short lived, but instead changes that can be embedded, and maintained in the long term and make a difference. We balance what we know works from the science, our own experience in the field and our interactions and understanding gathered from people across sectors with different expertise. We link these factors together to come up with practical solutions that deliver for the long term. LABS Innovation produce a range of tools using storytelling, common sense and behavioural science that can have a real impact on eating behaviours helping us feel good every day.
Everything and everyone is connected so we work across a diverse spectrum of ages and sectors, starting with the areas we feel will have the biggest impact. As well as our online books and tools, we offer on site and online support to a wide variety of organisations looking to apply behavioural science to help their customers to eat better, whoever they are.
